- Duffel bag weight limit: 15 kg (32 lbs.) for porter-carried gear. Extra luggage can be stored at your Moshi hotel.

Essential Gear (Non-Negotiable)
Basic Equipment
- Backpack (internal/external frame, 2500–3000 cubic inches) – Must fit well and carry all gear.
- Sleeping bag (rated to at least 15°F/-9°C) – Down or synthetic.
- Sleeping pad – For insulation and comfort.
- Duffel bags – 1 large (for mountain gear) and 1 small (for city clothes). Combined weight ≤100 lbs.
- Luggage locks – For securing duffel bags.
- Headlamp + extra batteries/bulbs – Note: Batteries may be confiscated in Kenya; pack spares in checked luggage.
- Extra bag – For items not needed on the mountain.
Sun Protection
- Sunglasses (glacier glasses with side shields, 100% UV/IR protection)
- Sun hat (wide-brimmed, covers neck/ears)
- Balaclava – For face/neck coverage.
- Lip balm (SPF 15+)
- Sunscreen (SPF 15+ minimum)
Clothing – Upper Body
- Moisture-wicking T-shirts (2, synthetic, no cotton)
- Long-sleeve base layer (light/medium synthetic)

- Hiking boots (well-broken-in, high-top, ankle support) – Wear these on the flight!

- Lightweight camp shoes/sandals
Hydration
- Water bottles (4×1 liter)
- Water treatment tablets (provided, but extras advised)

- Trekking poles – Especially useful for descent.
- First aid kit – Include:
- Prescription meds (e.g., altitude sickness pills).
- Antiseptic cream, blister treatment (Compeed/moleskin), painkillers (ibuprofen), rehydration salts.
- Biodegradable soap + hand sanitizer
- Insect repellent (DEET-based)
- Pocket knife (Swiss Army type)
- Ear plugs – For noise-free sleep.
- Camera + extra batteries/memory card (optional but useful).
